Platter & Motor

Work through this checklist in order before contacting support.

  • Check the power cord is firmly connected and the wall outlet has power.
  • Check the drive belt — it may have slipped off. Reinstall it correctly, ensuring it sits at the same height on both the motor pulley and the platter hub.
  • The belt has an inside and outside — try flipping it over if the platter spins slowly or not at all.
  • Check whether the unit entered standby mode. Power OFF using the rear switch, wait 20 seconds, then power ON again.
  • Unlock the tonearm clip and set the Lift Lever to the UP position — the platter will not spin if the lever is down with no tonearm over it.
Normal operation: Position the tonearm over the platter (above the slip mat) — under normal conditions the platter will automatically begin rotating as soon as the tonearm is moved over it.

If the power indicator is on but the motor does not spin, the motor's connection wires may be loose.

  1. 1Remove the platter, sub-platter, and drive belt.
  2. 2Use a Torx screwdriver to remove the 4 screws on the back panel of the turntable.
  3. 3Locate the motor's power cord connector. Unplug and firmly reconnect both cable ends.
  4. 4Reinstall the back panel, belt, and platter, then test.
If the motor still doesn't turn after reconnecting the cables, the motor may have failed. Contact us and we will send a replacement motor.

AngelsHorn turntables have an auto-standby feature. If the record ends or the unit is idle, it will automatically switch to standby mode to protect the stylus and motor.

Solution: Turn OFF the power switch on the rear panel, wait 20 seconds, then turn it back ON. This restarts the internal ERP system and the turntable will operate normally.
If the turntable stops mid-record consistently (not at the end), this is likely a stylus installation or counterweight issue. See the "Stylus & Tonearm" section.

This is caused by the anti-vibration rubber rings becoming stuck, preventing the aluminum platter from sitting at the correct height.

  1. 1Remove the 7 screws on the chassis (refer to the diagram in your user manual).
  2. 2Carefully remove the 3 anti-vibration rubber rings in sequence.
  3. 3Apply a small amount of lubricant to each rubber ring.
  4. 4Reinstall the rubber rings. The platter will return to its correct height and friction will stop.

Speed & Calibration

Slow speed is most often caused by belt alignment issues or dust buildup in the spindle hole. Try these steps in order.

Step 1 — Check belt orientation and height
  • The belt has an inside and outside. Try flipping it over and reinstalling with the original outer side facing in.
  • Use the plastic belt hook tool to ensure the belt sits at the same height on both the motor pulley and the platter hub.
Step 2 — Clean and lubricate the spindle
  1. 1Remove the platter from the spindle hole. Wipe the hub axle and clean the spindle hole with a dry cloth.
  2. 2Apply a drop of light machine oil to the spindle hole.
  3. 3Reinsert the platter hub. Turn it clockwise and counterclockwise by hand several times to distribute the oil.
  4. 4Remove and clean again, then repeat the oiling step. This ensures full cleaning before the final lubrication.
Step 3 — Adjust motor speed (if belt steps don't help)
  1. 1Remove the platter, hub, and belt. Turn the unit upside down and remove the 6 screws on the bottom panel with a Torx screwdriver.
  2. 2Gently remove the foam from the back of the motor to reveal the speed control holes.
  3. 3L hole = 33 RPM | H hole = 45 RPM. Use a flat-blade screwdriver to turn the groove. Counterclockwise = faster, Clockwise = slower.
Tip from a customer: "Adjusting the motor speed on the L dial fixed the problem! I used the RPM app on my iPhone to ensure the speed was accurate."

Excessive speed is usually caused by incorrect belt position or a motor calibration issue.

  • Belt orientation: Flip the belt over so the original outer side faces inward.
  • Belt height: Turn the platter over and use the belt hook tool to center the belt on the inner ring of the hub.
  • Motor adjustment: If the belt is correct, open the bottom panel and turn the speed control groove clockwise (H hole for 45 RPM, L hole for 33 RPM) to reduce speed.
Belt & Counterweight Setup

Pitch wobble is usually caused by cartridge misalignment, incorrect counterweight, or a loose stylus.

  1. 1Realign the cartridge using the paper alignment protractor included in the package. Place it over the spindle and align the stylus at the 130mm and 250mm marks. Reference video →
  2. 2Reinstall the stylus — ensure it is fully snapped into the cartridge body with no gaps.
  3. 3Increase counterweight slightly — try adding 0.2–0.3g above the recommended 3.5g.

No Sound / Low Volume

Check these 4 possible causes in order:

  1. 1Stylus wiring: The wires connecting the stylus to the cartridge may have come loose in transit. Re-insert each wire firmly into its connector. Watch video →
  2. 2Audio cables: Try a different RCA cable. If sound returns with a new cable, the original cable is faulty — contact us for a replacement.
  3. 3Speaker cable connection (H00501): The metal part of the speaker cable must contact the metal pressing plate — not the rubber jacket. Incorrect insertion (rubber touching metal) will cause no signal.
  4. 4PHONO/LINE switch: Check the switch on the rear of the turntable. Use LINE OUT when connecting to active/powered speakers. Use PHONO OUT when connecting to an amplifier with a phono input.
Quick test: Connect your phone to the turntable via Bluetooth and play music. If the speakers produce sound, the issue is with the stylus or cartridge wiring, not the speakers.

This is almost always caused by an incorrect PHONO/LINE switch setting.

  • If using active/powered speakers (including built-in speakers on H019) — set switch to LINE OUT. This engages the built-in preamp for full volume.
  • If using an external amplifier — set switch to PHONO OUT. Using LINE OUT with an amplifier will result in distortion or damage.
  • Ensure the counterweight is set to 3.5g. A too-light tracking force produces a weak signal.
  • Ensure the Tonearm Lift Lever is fully lowered when playing.
  • Amplifier or speakers not muted, and phono input selected on the amplifier.
  • Try swapping the red and white RCA cables (insert red into white port, white into red) — if sound moves to the other channel, the cable has a fault.
  • Reinsert the stylus wires — check all 4 wire leads are securely connected to the cartridge terminals.
  • Test with a different pair of speakers to isolate whether the issue is the turntable or the speaker.
  1. 1Use a 3.5mm stereo cable (not included). Plug one end into the AUX IN jack on the turntable and the other into the Line Out jack of your device.
  2. 2Power on both devices. The turntable indicator light will turn red.
  3. 3Control volume through the turntable knob.
Important: AUX IN is a first-priority function. While an AUX cable is plugged in, PHONO and Bluetooth functions will not work. Unplug the AUX cable to use those modes.

Hum, Buzz & Background Noise

A strong hum is almost always a grounding issue. Work through these checks:

  1. 1Ground wire: If your speakers or amplifier have a ground terminal, connect the turntable's ground wire firmly to it.
  2. 2PHONO/LINE switch: If connected to an amplifier, ensure the switch is set to PHONO OUT.
  3. 3RCA cable swap test: Insert the red RCA into the white port (at both ends). If the hum moves channels, the RCA cable is faulty — try a replacement.
  4. 4Distance: Move the turntable further from the speakers — proximity causes ground loop hum.
  5. 5Vibration: Ensure the turntable is not on an unstable surface or close to a subwoofer.
Noise Troubleshooting Video

Some background noise from entry-level belt drive turntables is normal, but it can be significantly reduced.

Community tip: Adding isolation feet and a cork turntable mat reduces noise by 50% or more. The turntable has good sound quality — the noise floor is mainly caused by floor vibrations and motor rumble reaching the platter.
  • Place the turntable on a stable, vibration-isolated surface (not directly on a speaker cabinet).
  • Add aftermarket isolation feet (available from AngelsHorn accessories).
  • Replace the felt slip mat with a cork mat for improved isolation.

Distorted or Poor Sound Quality

  1. 1PHONO/LINE switch: When connected to an amplifier, use PHONO OUT. When connected to active speakers, use LINE OUT. Mismatch causes severe distortion.
  2. 2Speed switch: Confirm the speed selector matches the record (33 or 45 RPM).
  3. 3Dust on stylus: Use a stylus brush to clean the tip. Even a small dust particle causes significant distortion.
  4. 4Stylus position: Ensure the stylus is correctly snapped into the cartridge and has not slipped sideways.
  5. 5Drive belt: Clean the belt with a dry cloth — a dirty or stretched belt causes speed instability and distortion.
  6. 6Counterweight: Confirm it is set to 3.5g. Under-tracking causes distortion, especially in loud passages.
Slight fluctuation during playback is normal and is part of the shock-absorbing mechanism inside the turntable. If sound quality is not affected, no adjustment is needed.

If the wobble is excessive, check these common causes:

  • Surface: Ensure the turntable is placed on a completely flat, stable surface.
  • Record: A slightly warped record can be improved with a Record Weight Stabilizer (sold separately).
  • Counterweight: Set to 3.5g (1.5 total rotations past balance point).
  • Spindle: Clean the spindle hole and apply a drop of machine oil. Debris causes uneven platter height.

Stylus & Tonearm

Removing the stylus
  1. 1Gently pull down the front edge of the needle.
  2. 2Pull the needle forward.
  3. 3Pull out and remove completely.
Installing the stylus
  1. 1Position the needle with its tip facing down.
  2. 2Line up the back of the needle with the cartridge body.
  3. 3Insert the needle with its front end at a downward angle, then gently lift the front upward until it snaps into place. You should feel or hear a click.
Note: If you receive a new stylus, it may have a protective tape cover. Remove this before use.
Stylus Installation Video

The recommended tracking force for the factory-fitted AT-3600L cartridge is 3.5 ± 0.5g.

  1. 1Unlock the tonearm clip. Set the Lift Lever to the UP position. Position the cartridge in the space between the tonearm rest and platter. Set the Lift Lever to DOWN.
  2. 2Insert the counterweight onto the rear of the tonearm. Rotate it until the tonearm is perfectly balanced horizontally (floats level).
  3. 3Set the Lift Lever to UP. Return the tonearm to its rest and lock it. Keep the counterweight still and rotate only the dial ring until "0" is at the top.
  4. 4Rotate the entire counterweight (not the dial) 1¾ turns inward to set 3.5g.
If your records are scratched or the needle skips, try increasing to 3.8g. 3.5g is recommended, not mandatory — adjust within the 3.0–4.0g range as needed.
Counterweight Setup Video
  1. 1Check the record: Inspect for obvious scratches or warping. Dirty or damaged records will cause skipping regardless of setup.
  2. 2Reinstall the stylus: The most common cause. Snap it firmly back into the cartridge — customers often think it's installed but it isn't fully seated.
  3. 3Increase counterweight: Try adjusting to 3.8g. Tracking force that is too light causes skipping, especially on loud or bass-heavy passages.
  4. 4Anti-skating weight: Tie the fishing line to the 3rd groove of the small stub above the tonearm, then hang the weight from the hook.
  5. 5Tonearm rest height: Adjust the screw on the tonearm rest so the bottom of the stylus protector is level with the slip mat.
  6. 6Leading wire: If the wire between tonearm and base is tight, use a screwdriver to gently loosen it through the small gap.
Diagnosis tip: Place 2 records stacked together and try playing. If skipping stops, the stylus is likely worn — contact us for a replacement AT-3600L stylus.
  1. 1Set the counterweight correctly to 3.5–3.8g.
  2. 2Tonearm bearing screw: Turn the screw on the top of the tonearm one turn counterclockwise. This loosens the bearing friction. Readjust the counterweight after. Reference video →
  3. 3Check for loose screws at the center of the up/down tonearm mechanism — tighten them gently.
  4. 4Reduce the playback volume — excessive bass at high volume can cause the tonearm to vibrate out of the groove.

All AngelsHorn turntables are fitted with an Audio-Technica AT-3600L dual moving magnet (MM) cartridge. The stylus tip is an elliptical diamond point.

The AT-3600L uses a universal headshell — you can upgrade to higher-grade styli (AT-VM95E, Ortofon 2M Red, etc.) by swapping the cartridge. Replacement AT-3600L styli are available directly from AngelsHorn.

Bluetooth Connectivity

  1. 1Turn off all other Bluetooth devices nearby (phones, tablets, other speakers) to eliminate interference. The turntable connects to the closest discoverable device.
  2. 2Ensure your Bluetooth speaker is in pairing mode (indicator flashing). Turn the turntable speed knob to 33 RPM — the blue BT indicator should flash.
  3. 3Keep within 16 feet (5m). Try turning on the turntable first, then the speaker — or vice versa.
  4. 4Remove any RCA cables from the Phono or Line Out jacks — a connected RCA cable will prevent Bluetooth from working.
  5. 5Reset your speaker's pairing memory if it has previously paired with other devices (hold the Bluetooth + forward button on JBL speakers, for example).
If pairing fails after 2 minutes, the BT light turns red (indicating power mode). Restart the turntable and try again.
Incompatible speakers: Sonos Move, Samsung Soundbar (Alexa-based), and Bose Bluetooth speakers use closed protocols and cannot pair with AngelsHorn turntables. We recommend speakers with open Bluetooth protocols.
  • H019 / H00501: Bluetooth receive only — your phone connects TO the turntable to play phone music through the speakers. Cannot output to Bluetooth speakers.
  • H002BT: Bluetooth transmit — the turntable sends vinyl audio TO a Bluetooth speaker or headphone. Cannot receive from a phone.
  • Phantom: Bluetooth receive — streams from your phone. Cannot output to Bluetooth speakers.
There is no way to permanently disable Bluetooth on this model. The turntable will automatically reconnect to any previously paired device within range, even when playing via RCA.
Workaround: Turn off all other Bluetooth devices in the room when using RCA cables. The turntable will not reconnect if no paired device is discoverable.

H019 and H00501 have Bluetooth receive mode — your phone connects to the turntable, so it should appear in your phone's Bluetooth list.

  1. 1Clear all Bluetooth pairing records on your phone, and turn off all other Bluetooth devices nearby.
  2. 2Turn the turntable OFF and back ON. The BT indicator should flash — indicating it is in discoverable mode.
  3. 3On your phone, scan for Bluetooth devices. Select "Angels Horn" or similar from the list.
If the BT light does not flash, the Bluetooth antenna wire may be loose inside the unit. Contact us with your order number for further assistance.

Setup & Connections

All AngelsHorn turntables have a built-in phono preamp. This means you have two connection options:

  • LINE OUT mode: Built-in preamp ON. Connect directly to active/powered speakers. No amplifier needed. This is the simplest setup.
  • PHONO OUT mode: Built-in preamp OFF. Connect to an external amplifier's PHONO input. Use this for high-end stereo systems. Do not use with active speakers in this mode.
Models with built-in speakers (H019) or bundled speakers (H00501): No additional equipment required — everything is included. Just set to LINE OUT.
  • Plastic key (belt hook): Used to adjust the drive belt to the same height on both the platter hub and motor pulley. Hold the hook on the inside of the belt and turn it along the inside to level the belt. For casual use, this precision adjustment is not required.
  • 45 RPM adapter: Used to play 45 RPM singles. Place it over the spindle before placing the record, as 45 RPM records have a larger center hole.
Setup Guide Video
  • H019: All-in-one design with 4 built-in speakers. Compact, space-saving, no extra equipment needed. Bluetooth receive to play phone music.
  • H00501: Same Bluetooth receive function, but with separate bookshelf speakers. Better sound quality due to independent speaker cabinets with larger woofers.
Both are ready to use out of the box with no additional equipment required. Choose H019 for simplicity and space, H00501 for sound quality.
  1. 1Locate the small stub (post) above the tonearm with 3 grooves.
  2. 2Tie the anti-skating weight's fishing line loop over the 3rd groove from the base.
  3. 3Thread the line through the wire support loop, then hang the weight from the standing hook.
If the slip knot falls off the weight, pinch the short rope side and gently pull the ring to resize. Use a pen inside the loop to prevent it from tightening too much.
The counterweight and anti-skating weight attach to different rods. Do not attach them to the same post.
